Participatory Action Research and Curriculum Workbooks
I had the incredible honor and joy of collaborating with the brilliant community at New York University Law School's Bernstein Institute for Human Rights as the Participatory Action Research Scholar. Together with the transformative human rights activist Mela Chiponda, I co-facilitated the Legal Empowerment Learning Lab, where I worked alongside brilliant activists, practitioners, and human rights lawyers. Through this experience, I was able to develop these workbooks. The intention behind these resources is to take the co-constructed learning that took place within the Lab and make it accessible to anyone committed to collective liberation.
The AI and Positionality: Guide for Learning Communities came out of the profound privilege I had of collaborating with sixteen teams of student researchers at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. While in the classroom with them, I was meeting with a visionary and thoughtful group of faculty across CUNY who were similarly thinking about how we can provide supports to our students as they engage with AI. All of their amazing insights about navigating AI in higher education inspired this resource guide—a collection of practical activities, theoretical frameworks, and pedagogical approaches designed to help educators thoughtfully integrate AI tools while preserving the irreplaceable value of diverse human perspectives in knowledge construction. My hope is that this guide serves as an invitation to dialogue as we create learning environments where technology enhances rather than diminishes the rich tapestry of student voices that give meaning to our educational communities.
