Indigo Dye & Fiber Works

I had a chance to collaborate recently with the incredible Joel Weber of Indigo Dye & Fiber Works in northeast Portland. The art of natural dying is potent in this small studio space tucked away from the busy street nearby. Though there is a little bookcase dense with texts on the subject, Joel is the greatest community resource on dying naturally. When I popped in with the brilliant fiber artist, Jen Erickson, we caught him experimenting with avocado pits as dyes. Like the scarves and yarn that he seems to imbue with the warmth of the sun, he too glows as he works. The passion, the authentic love for his craft, is palpable.
