New Residency! The Guest House at Rose Villa begins...

Starting a new residency. A lovely, ambiguous little experiment. Just how I like all of my experiments to be. Four months ago or so, I decided I would contact every single retirement community or nursing home I could fish out of this murky pond we’ll call the internet. In the letter, I explained that my collaborative partner, Jen, and I were looking for a creative home. Rather than finding a little hole in a little wall painted fresh and white, we wanted to be in a place that would feed our soul.  So I wrote them explaining that “ We are looking for a space to practice in. While talking about our ideal situation we realized that what we want above all is the opportunity to inspire and engage people. We are inspired by stories and we love to allow moments and relationships to naturally evolve and influence the projects we are working on. This led us to the natural conclusion that our ideal location would be a community where amazing folks gather and collaborate, a community like yours. “

I really didn’t know what to expect. I thought perhaps a handful might write back and we’d try to tease out the details and the most adventurous communities might even invite us in for a conversation. That’s not what happened.

Rose Villa, the delightful collaborative community, understood my language from within. They dove into this pool of interesting ambiguity and now we are both under water. It is soothing, exciting, and beautiful. We slowly arranged ourselves in the 800 square foot apartment they gave us over the past two weeks and this Friday we are going to be officially introduced to the incredible residents.  I’ll be posting little relics of our experiments, can’t keep the beauty all to myself now, can I?

Here is to new adventures. Ambiguous, fluid, open possibilities! And here’s to you for joining me on them!
